From the Secretary General’s Desk
A Journey that began 33 years ago in Guwahati, Assam in Northeast India is now on the threshold of reaching out to and sharing its mission and vision with the World Community.
The organisation was founded by Shri Bhabendra Narayan Dutta Baruah, a Humanist who ought to actualise the coming together of communities and fulfil their common goal to successfully achieve the creation of a healthy and economically sound society.
The focus of Sreemanta Sankar Mission has been providing facilities for better health care, education, livelihood opportunities and empowering society, especially it’s women folk. In recent years, SSM’s mission to provide better health care facilities to the undeserved has received a positive response from the communities it has served selflessly over the years. More than 100 health camps, early detection for cancer, general health and eye campus have been organised in association with BBCI, Lion’s Eye Hospital, Guwahati and many organisations like Rashtriya Gramin Vikash Nidhi, Mukti and others. Today SSM has conducted health and sanitation campaigns, including the distribution of anti-malaria and pest repellents in New Delhi, UP, West Bengal besides Assam. AIDS awareness programmes with the Indian Army and Anti-tobacco campaigns in schools and colleges in Assam are some of the social activities which have been undertaken. Organisations like Kasturba Ashram, Guwahati; Prajapita Brahma Kumari; Missionaries of Charity; Snehalaya, Shanti Sadhana Ashram and others have been our partners in achieving our mission.
