The history of healthcare in the northeastern states is replete with poor or no medical infrastructure, ignorance and also negligence, especially in government run hospitals. The farther away from the state capital you go, the more pathetic is the healthcare scenario. In such a situation, the role of civil society organisations working in the region is of utmost importance. Since inception, Sreemanta Sankar Mission of Guwahati is engaged in taking healthcare to the people by organising free health check up, medicine distribution, early cancer detection and health awareness camps across this region.
